How Do I Get My Business to Show Up in AI Assistant Answers?

You get there by doing the same work that gets you found in a normal search. AI assistants, and the AI summaries Google now puts at the top of its results, build their answers from your website, your Google Business Profile, directory listings and reviews. There is no secret trick and no paid placement a small business can buy. If those sources are clear, consistent and current, you have every chance of being named.

Where the answers come from

When someone asks an assistant for a plumber in their suburb, the assistant does not know anything on its own. It goes and reads. It reads the pages a search engine would show, business profiles, directory listings and reviews. Then it writes a short answer and often names two or three businesses.

So the question is really whether your business is easy to read. If a page on your site says plainly who you are, where you are and what you do, an assistant can repeat it. If that is buried in a slogan or missing altogether, the assistant will pick a competitor whose page was easier to understand.

What to check first

Start with the basics that both search engines and assistants rely on.

  1. Your home page and about page state your business name, the areas you serve and the services you offer, in ordinary sentences, not just in a logo or a banner.
  2. Your Google Business Profile is complete. Every field is filled in, the categories are right, the hours are correct and there are recent photos.
  3. Your name, address and phone number are written exactly the same way on your website, your profile and every directory that lists you. Small differences make an assistant unsure whether two listings are the same business.
  4. You have genuine reviews, and you reply to them. Assistants lean on reviews to decide who to recommend, and they quote from them.

Write the questions customers actually ask

This is the part most businesses skip, and it matters most. People ask assistants full questions. How much does a bond clean cost in Perth. Do I need a permit for a patio.

Make a page for each question your customers really ask you, put the question in the heading, and give a direct answer in the first paragraph. Then explain, in plain words and short paragraphs. A page that answers one question well is far more likely to be quoted than a long page that touches on ten things.

If you are not sure which questions to write, think about what you explain on the phone every week. That list is your content plan.

Keep it current

Assistants quote what they find, including pages that are years out of date. If your site still lists a service you no longer offer or an old address, that is what will be repeated to a customer. Review your key pages a few times a year, and update your Google profile the moment anything changes.

What to do next

If this sounds like local SEO, that is because it is. The same clear website, complete profile and steady flow of helpful answers that lift you in a Google search are what put you in the answer an assistant gives. We cover all of it under websites and SEO. If writing regular question and answer pages sounds like more than you have time for, our blog post scheduling service handles the writing and publishing for you.

Can I pay to be recommended by an AI assistant?
Not as a small business. There is no advertising product that puts you into the written answer. You earn a mention by being clear, consistent and well reviewed.

Does my website need special code for AI assistants?
No. The structured data that already helps Google understand your pages helps assistants too. Clear headings and plain answers do most of the work.

How long before I see my business mentioned?
Usually weeks to months, not days. New reviews and pages take time to be picked up.
